Terms of Service

Welcome to Scanzio! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Scanzio mobile application ("App") operated by ScopeCove ("we," "our," or "us").

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Scanzio, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Description of Service

Scanzio is a mobile application that helps users:

  • Scan and process receipts using AI technology
  • Split expenses among groups of people
  • Track shared expenses and settlements
  • Generate payment requests via third-party payment services
  • Export expense reports

3. User Accounts

3.1 Registration

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Keep your account credentials secure
  • Notify us immediately of unauthorized account access
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

3.2 Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the App settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.

4. Subscriptions and Payments

4.1 Available Plans

Scanzio offers the following plans:

  • Free: $0 forever — includes 2 active groups, basic bill splitting, Venmo & PayPal integration, and manual receipt entry.
  • Premium Monthly: $4.99/month — includes unlimited groups, AI receipt scanning, multi-currency support, PDF/CSV export, iCloud sync, and no ads.
  • Premium Annual: $39.99/year (save 33%) — all Premium features billed annually.

4.2 Subscription Terms

  • Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings
  • No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods
  • Premium features are unlocked immediately upon subscription

4.3 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices at any time. Price changes will not affect your current subscription period. You will be notified of any price changes before your next renewal.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal purpose
  • Upload false, misleading, or fraudulent expense information
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's operation
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
  • Use automated systems or bots to access the App
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users

6. User Content

6.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create in the App (expense descriptions, group names, etc.). By using the App, you grant us a limited license to process and display this content to provide the service.

6.2 Receipt Images

Receipt images you scan are processed by third-party AI services to extract text. You represent that you have the right to scan and process any receipts you upload.

7. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services including:

  • Payment Apps: Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle. We facilitate links to these services but do not process payments directly. These services have their own terms and privacy policies.
  • Google Gemini AI: For receipt text extraction, subject to Google's terms.
  • Firebase: For authentication and data services, subject to Google's terms.
  • Apple iCloud: For data synchronization, subject to Apple's terms.

We are not responsible for third-party services' availability, accuracy, or practices.

8. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, features, and content, is owned by ScopeCove and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Receipt scanning will be 100% accurate
  • Expense calculations will be error-free
  • Third-party payment links will always function correctly

YOU USE THE APP AT YOUR OWN RISK. Always verify expense amounts and settlements before making payments.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SCOPECOVE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
  • Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
  • Disputes between users regarding expense splits
  • Failed or incorrect payments through third-party services
  • Damages exceeding the amount you paid for the App in the past 12 months

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ScopeCove from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the App, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Dispute Resolution

12.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at legal@scopecove.com to attempt informal resolution.

12.2 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.

12.3 Arbitration

Any disputes not resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and ScopeCove regarding the App.
