ScopeCove ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Scanzio mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password.
  • Profile Information: You may optionally provide a profile photo.
  • Expense Data: Information about expenses, groups, and splits you create, including restaurant names, item descriptions, amounts, and participant names.
  • Contact Information: If you grant permission, we access your device's contacts to help you add friends to expense groups. We do not store your full contact list on our servers.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers.
  • Usage Data: App feature usage, interaction patterns, and crash reports.
  • Receipt Images: When you use the receipt scanning feature, images are processed by Google's Gemini AI to extract text. Receipt images are processed in real-time and are not stored on Google's servers after processing.

1.3 Information from Third-Party Services

  • Firebase Authentication: We use Firebase for secure account authentication. Firebase may collect device identifiers and IP addresses.
  • Apple Sign-In: If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email (or a private relay email).
  • Google Sign-In: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App
  • Create and manage your account
  • Process and track expenses and settlements
  • Enable receipt scanning and AI-powered item extraction
  • Sync your data across devices via iCloud (if enabled)
  • Send you important updates about the App
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With Group Members: Expense details are shared with other members of your expense groups.
  • Service Providers: We use third-party services to operate the App:
    • Firebase (Google) - Authentication and database
    • Google Gemini AI - Receipt text extraction
    • Apple iCloud - Data synchronization (optional)
    • Frankfurter API - Currency exchange rates
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Local Storage: Most of your data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
  • Cloud Sync: If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, encrypted and protected by Apple's security measures.
  • Firebase: Account authentication data is stored securely on Firebase servers in the United States.
  • Encryption: All data transmitted to and from the App is encrypted using TLS/SSL.
  • Passwords: We never store passwords in plain text. Authentication is handled securely by Firebase.

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Access and Portability

You can export all your data (expenses, groups, history) as PDF or CSV files from within the App (Premium feature).

5.2 Correction

You can update your profile information and expense data at any time within the App.

5.3 Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data by going to Account → Settings → Delete Account in the App. This action is irreversible.

5.4 Opt-Out

  • iCloud Sync: You can disable iCloud sync in the App settings.
  • Contacts Access: You can revoke contacts permission in your device Settings.
  • Push Notifications: You can disable notifications in your device Settings.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account:

  • Your local data is deleted immediately
  • Your Firebase account data is deleted within 30 days
  • Anonymized analytics data may be retained for up to 12 months

7. Children's Privacy

Scanzio is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States (Firebase servers). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

10. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights including:

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing

11. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party services (Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these services. Please review their privacy policies.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
